After a weird couple of years of being pent up in our house due to the global pandemic we realized that we needed a change. Sometimes things can become a little too routine and so we thought what better time to shake things up a bit!

There are few factors that helped form our decision to put things on pause and travel around the world. First, our kids are at the perfect age. Liam is 8 and Mackenzie will be 10 in October (we plan to celebrate his birthday in Sydney - how awesome a birthday party is that!). If our kids were younger, they wouldn't remember all of the sites and experiences - if our kids were older, they wouldn't want to be around mom and dad 24/7! Also, as far as schooling goes, we should be able to keep up with their studies fairly easily without needing a regimented homeschooling program.
The second factor is more of a YOLO decision. The only way to take this much time off to travel would be in retirement, and frankly, we don't want to wait that long since, though we are very fortunate to be in good health at the moment, there is no certainty that the same will be true 25 years from now. I am very fortunate to work at a great company (shout out to SLR Consulting!) that allows the flexibility to take an extended leave. I personally think that sabbaticals should more of the norm. Some workplaces offer a 4/5 schedule (4 years on at 80% pay with 1 year off). What a great way to recharge the batteries and come back with new energy!
We plan to travel in a westward direction over the next ten months. Our general itinerary can be found here: Itinerary
Hope you can follow along on our journey!
